About Me!
Hello , I am Jami Childers-Rood I live in Florida with my husband & my talented boy-girl twins. They are very supportive of my art & my endeavors which makes it possible for me to keep moving forward.
My painting life started early. I was inspired by my Mom , Dad & by my Grandfather who painted himself. He sent me home one summer with a handful of paint, brushes & a love of art. Later I took a couple of drawing classes at San Bernardino Jr. College in California. It wasn’t until I moved to Florida did my real passion for art begin to develop. The past 3 yrs I have been pursuing my talent on a regular basis. I joined 3 art societies & I have truly enjoyed participating in shows. In 2006 I received 3rd. place with Jacksonville Coalition of Visual arts, in 2007 I received an honorable mention with St. Augustine Arts Assoation, also in 2007 I received a merit award with the Jacksonville Watercolor Society. I also enjoy participating with the Downtown Art Walk, & the new Jax. Beaches Art Walk.
As an artist I have enjoyed exploring new techniques & media. Most of my recent work is done with acrylic on watercolor paper. The paper lets the paint mix & move. It has a property that canvas cannot replicate. It is amazing what the paint will do if you let it. I try not have a strict idea of how a painting should turn out. That way it feels as though the painting takes on a life of its own. Being surprised how a work comes out is a wonderful feeling.
I paint only from real life, my own photographs or my own arrangements. (Unless I am doing a commission from someone’s photograph.) Choosing subjects is easy for me. I like the kind of things we live with every day, simple stuff. I also find the way light plays on & through water & glass fascinating. Taking these elements & turning them into enjoyable art is what keeps me creating. If it tells a story & keeps you captivated then I am doing what I was made to do.
My work can always be viewed at 5842 Atlantic Blvd Jax., Fl, Billy’s Barber Shop/art studio/art gallery, where I work full time to keep from becoming a starving artist. Thank you so much for your interest & check by often. I plan on keeping busy!
